Art Glass

From bright jewel tones to frosted pastel and textured glass, art glass brings elegance to any space and can make a fantastic gift for someone who has everything.

Art Glass

Art glass is simply defined as glassware designed with decorative value at the fore. Glass in this category can be any age, though generally we use "art glass" to refer to pieces made from the mid-1800s onwards.

With such a broad definition there is a whole world of art glass to explore, from 19th century Bohemian vases through Murano lampwork animals right up to contemporary British glass.

British Art Glass

British art glass is a growing field with many high end studios creating stunning pieces of contemporary work. At Wand Vintage Interiors, we tend to focus on the vintage but sometimes I love a contemporary piece so much it sneaks in!

From a truly vintage angle, we regularly have pieces by Caithness in Scotland and Whitefriars (London / Harrow).

Italian Art Glass - Murano and beyond

Murano is a small island located in the Venetian lagoon and is synonymous with art glass and makes some of the world's finest pieces.

Another Italian glass region is Empoli, Tuscany. Glass manufacturing in Empoli dates back to the 1500s, however peaked post-war in the 1950s-70s. We stock both Murano and Empoli glass at Wand Vintage Interiors.

European Art Glass

The UK and Italy have by no means cornered the art glass market. There is a vast wealth of glass making in Europe with extremely complex, detailed work from Bohemia (Czechia) in the 1800s through to 20th century modern sinuous curves of Swedish and Scandinavian pieces. Malta also deserves a special mention with the production of Mtarfa and Medina glass.

Art glass beyond Europe

Of course glass as an artform is found worldwide, and we stock pieces from all around the globe including the United States and Japan.
